Indraprastha Cottage: Bask in the Glory

When I think of rejuvenation, the first thing that comes to my mind is a vacation to an exotic location and a relaxing stay far from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Thus, when I plan a trip, it is to one of the quaintest places on earth. Such was my recent trip to Manali. To add to my exceptionally good trip was the Indraprastha Cottage, where I stayed during my stay for almost 3 nights and 4 days. I booked the cottage almost a week in advance and got to know about this place while browsing through some popular travel portals.

Nestled between the lush green meadows and mountains, Indraprastha Cottage is a home away from home. Just like any other cottage, Indraprastha is situated at the outskirts, around 2.5 km away from the main market on Mall Road. The roads leading to the cottage are narrow and offer you a bumpy ride, but once you reach the hotel, it is worth it. The Hidimba Devi temple is just down the lane, about 1.5kms from the hotel.

Family Cottage

The hotel comprises several rooms under Family Cottage, Deluxe Cottage and Standard Cottage. I chose the family cottage, named Pukhraj with two rooms with washroom each, a dining area cum kitchen and a balcony. Thus, I call it a home away from home. I along with my family whiled away some fabulous moments sitting in the balcony with a cup of tea in the mornings and slurping soups in the night. Our dinner was served right on the dining table just like my home and we enjoyed it thoroughly accompanied by television. Not even for a second I felt aloof or disconnected. At the same time, the rooms provided enough privacy as they were big enough and at some distance.

View from the Hotel

I decided to wake up early morning to witness the sunrise and the glaring mountains. However, the sight which my eyes saw was truly magnificent and way beyond my expectations. I could only see the snow-capped mountains from one end till the other. The moment these snow-covered peaks were sun-kissed, did they resemble a jeweled golden crown shining to the best of possibilities. While some part of the mountains looked golden, the other parts were more like a sheet of silver draping the elegant parts of the mountains. Then there were other submissive shades of greens, browns and blacks. The view from the balcony just outside my room made an overwhelming start to my exciting trip and I was all pepped up to explore the beauty of Manali.

The Sitting Area and the Fire-place

Indraprastha Cottage had almost everything an individual would look for when on a relaxing holiday–a sitting area surrounded by exotic flowers like different colors of Roses, Gladiolus and a picturesque view to soothe your body and soul.

Then there was a fire-place with metallic benches positioned perfectly. What else can one ask for?

Splendid Flora

One thing that grabbed my attention was the wonderful plantation and flowers. The roses were abundant in various shades and forms and as big as Dahlia. The rose shrub were reaching almost up to the first floor and looked irresistibly beautiful. Aside to this, I did not have to go exploring the hill station to find the apple orchards. Indraprastha Cottage gave me a glimpse to the golden apples hanging towards the gravity as if asking me to grab them once they fall.

 Food & Service

The best part of any stay is to have good food, enough to gratify your belly and a management that’s on their toe and always at your service. Indraprastha Cattage offered both. The main folk serving us, named Goldie, was brilliant. He served us with full enthusiasm. The food was delicious and more homelike which actually made me feel at ease. Last but not the least was Mr. Shekhar Lamba, a generous and an extremely humble man and the owner of the property. Shekhar was always keen to help us with anything, with a warm smile. Right from the time of booking the hotel to checking out, he was extra particular about serving us with the best.

Indraprastha Cottage did help me rejuvenate my senses and warm my spirit, adding to the spectacular beauty and tranquility of the place.

I made the right choice and I am sure to come back to Indraprastha Cottage, if I visit Manali again; sooner or later.
