Herbalife India and Mary Kom felicitated the group of athletes who made India proud of winning 47 gold, 54 silver and 72 bronze medals in the recent World Summer Games

On August 19, 2015, Herbalife International India Pvt. Ltd., a leading global nutrition company along with Mary Kom, felicitated the Indian Contingent of 2015 Special Olympics World Games, held from July 25-August 2 in Los Angeles, United States. As part of the global initiative, Herbalife has partnered with LA2015, the Organizing Committee for the Games, to aid in fulfilling the alimentary needs of athletes and coaches from 165 countries.
It was extraordinary to meet the champions who have not just brought laurels to the country, but hold in them an undying spirit of turning their dreams into a reality. Their excitement was unbound and their eyes reflected sheer innocence. And, then there was Mary Kom, who needs no introduction, felicitated these 214 athletes from team Bharat along with the team officials. The athletes won a total of 173 medals.

All the athletes were full of enthusiasm and excitement. They, along with the boxing champ, Mary Kom made this evening memorable. It was a proud moment to see all of them sharing the stage and having one thing in common; the spirit of sportsmanship. Mary Kom left her audience thrilled with her inspirational words. Mary Kom said, “In my life, I have learnt from my experiences that you should never give up. You must keep fighting and one day you are definitely going to win.” “I would like to congratulate the winners and those who could not win, will definitely win next time,” she added. Furthermore, she thanked Herbalife for partnering with her.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), 3% of the world population is intellectually disabled, which estimates to 36 million of the people facing this in common. This is where Special Olympics Bharat comes in picture and using sports as a catalyst it aims to transform communities by inspiring people to open their minds, accept people with intellectual disabilities and thereby celebrate the similarities common to all. Special Olympics Bharat provides sports training and competition opportunities in 36 States/Union Territories and 679 districts in India. It is a National Sports Federation officially registered by Special Olympics Inc to conduct Special Olympic Programs all over India. Air Marshal Denzil Keelor, CEO, Special Olympics Bharat said, “I would like to congratulate the athletes for their grand performances and the coaches and trainers who worked so hard to ensure success. Let’s now look ahead, focus on our mission and strive to achieve all our targets involving as many Athletes as we can through our local, district and state level programs.”
